Coming Soon……
Almost every region in the world has a wonderful variety of local wood species just waiting to be discovered.
Living and working on the outskirts of Jerusalem envision the creation of an instrument made using only locally harvested timbers from all around Israel. This project is coming close to fruition…. pictures soon to follow…
Some of the woods likely to make it into the project:
Sheesham Rosewood – This is a botanically true rosewood species the has fantastic tonal and esthetic qualities. I use this variety for my concert classical guitars and it has become a strong favorite. a perfect wood for the back and sides of this guitar.
Carob wood – A very exciting discovery, Carob has Mahogany like grain structure with rare color richness and great strength making it ideal for the neck.
Olive – A small tree that grow wildly, the wood is extremely beautiful with a wild grain pattern and strong colors including carious shades of green black and brown. While not stable enough for the body of a guitar it is very useful for decorative elements.
Cedar of Lebanon – I’m still working on acquiring this wood… it is not easy! But it is the obvious choice for a very special soundboard.
