The choice of timber plays a crucial role in shaping the sound, response and esthetic of an instrument. Each instrument I make is conceptualizes as an individual and I greatly enjoy using a wide variety of timbers in my work.
For the soundboard (top), spruce and cedar are utilized. there are several varieties of spruce and cedar too, each with it’s own tonal qualities. generally speaking Spruce offers a brighter, clear tone, while cedar provides a warmer, mellower sound.
The back and sides can be made from a variety of timbers with equally good results. Rosewood, Maple and Cypress are most common but I have extensive experience using a wide variety of timbers such as Mahogany, Limba, Redwood, Walnut, Cherry, Imbuya and others. I encourage discussion with my customers when selecting wood for their Instrument.
Ordering a custom classical guitar is a unique opportunity to create an instrument tailored to your personal desires, playing style and preferences.
Along with tailoring the sound and response, customization includes selecting body size, neck dimensions, scale length and decorative details.
The process typically involves consultation, material selection, and regular updates as the build progresses, ensuring your vision is brought to life with precision and care.
For me, building a classical guitar is more than just making an instrument—it’s creating the perfect tool capable of translating a players musical intentions. I have made many other instruments for my customers including unique electric instruments, ouds, dulcimers and small harps. I honor the opportunity to fulfil a players dream.
